Keeping your Brother QL label printer always on

Many SmartLobby users have reported that their Brother label printer simply switches off after an hour or so. This leaves the kiosk unable to print visitor badges until someone notices and powers it back on.

The cause is the printer's built-in Auto Power Off setting, which puts the device to sleep after a period of inactivity. The video below shows you how to disable it so your printer stays ready at all times.

Why this happens

Brother QL printers ship with Auto Power Off enabled to save energy. In a busy reception, gaps between visitors can easily exceed the timeout, so the printer powers down between sign-ins and the next badge fails to print.

Turning this setting off keeps the printer online and on standby, ready to print the moment a visitor checks in.

What to do

Follow the steps in the video to disable Auto Power Off on your model. Once the setting is turned off, your printer will stay on and your kiosk will keep printing without interruption.

If your printer continues to switch off after changing this setting, contact us at support@smartlobby.co and we will help you get it sorted.
